2022 AFN AGA Welcome Reception – A Cultural Evening at Musqueam

The Welcome Reception is available to all delegates and sponsors the evening of Monday, July 4th before the start of the Annual General Assembly. Following a welcome from the Musqueam people, the experience will showcase local First Nations culture, a short film, as well as Indigenous cuisine. The Welcome Reception is an excellent opportunity to reconnect with old friends and make new ones before the work of the General Assembly begins. This is a free, family-friendly event.

2022 AFN AGA Night at the SportsBar at Rogers Arena

Delegates and sponsors will be treated to a high-energy experience in Vancouver’s longest bar featuring entertainment by Squamish Nation’s Tewanee Joseph’s local rock band Bitterly Divine. This event includes a cash bar and complimentary appetizers. Wear your favourite hockey jersey and get your photo taken with some special NHL alumni! The SportsBar is located on the upper level of Rogers Arena, on West Georgia Street.

Stanley Park Guided Cultural Walking Tour
Wednesday July 6, 2022, 5:30 – 7:00 PM
*Bus departs from the Vancouver Convention Centre at 5:30 PM

Delegates will have an alternative opportunity on July 6th to take a culturally enriched Talking Totems Indigenous Art Tour in Stanley Park led by Talaysay Tours. This tour, led by a guide, cultural-ambassador, also a trained Indigenous artist, and a member of the local Salish tribes, will provide a historical and cultural understanding of Coast Salish and Northwest Coast Indigenous art, stories, and cultural practices. Delegates will be provided with transportation to and from the event, as well as light refreshments.

2022 AFN AGA Gala Evening

The Gala Evening promises to be a stellar, not-to-be-missed event of celebration of the positive work undertaken by Delegates during the AGA. A highlight of the evening will be an Indigenous fashion show by Ay Lelum, traditional Coast Salish Design House. The evening will begin with a networking reception at the JW Parq Marriott, followed by three-course dinner and Indigenous music.

The BC Assembly of First Nations (BCAFN) is proud to be hosting the upcoming Assembly of First Nations (AFN) Annual General Assembly (AGA) that is being held from July 4th-7th in Vancouver, BC, the traditional territory of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations.
The BCAFN is planning a series of exciting social and cultural events for the AGA that will showcase local First Nations art, music, food, fashion and culture. A snapshot of the activities includes a Welcome Reception in a spectacular venue at the Musqueam Cultural Pavilion, an opportunity to wear your favourite hockey jersey at a Sports Night in downtown Vancouver, a Cultural Walking Tour in Stanley Park and a Gala Dinner evening filled with fabulous food, music, entertainment and a fashion show featuring Indigenous designers!
Delegates and their families are encouraged to book their travel and hotel rooms early as it is peak summer season in Vancouver. More information on the AFN website.
