Terry Teegee, is the incumbent Regional Chief of the British Columbia Assembly of First Nations and has served for one term in this position. Terry’s ancestry is of Dakelh (Carrier), Gitxsan and Sekani descent and is a member of the Takla Nation. Terry has a long history in natural resources development and is a former Registered Professional Forester. As Regional Chief, he was instrumental in negotiating the historic passing of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Legislation (Bill 41). Terry demonstrated strong leadership both provincially and nationally through his work on the following portfolios:
- AFN Chair of Chiefs Committee include: Economic Development, Employment and Training, and Cannabis
- Co-Chair of the AFN National Fisheries Committee
- Co-Lead on the AFN Justice Portfolio
- Lead for Gaming Nationally and member of BC First Nation Gaming Commission
- Co-Chair of the Forestry Sub-Committee with Province of BC
- Co-Chair for the Champions Table with BC Business Council
- The Political Lead for FNLC for co-developed Environmental Assessment Act (Bill 51)
- Tripartite Working Group to implement Bill C-92, Indigenous Child Welfare Jurisdiction Bill to implement the Commitment Document Provincially
- AFN Representative on the Convention of Biodiversity
Terry is known for his caring and collaborative leadership style and he has the proven skills to unify and support people when working together towards the recognition and activation of our rights.
Before his election as BC Regional Chief, Terry was the elected Tribal Chief of the Carrier Sekani Tribal Council (CSTC) from 2012-2017. Previous to his political aspirations, Terry held forestry and natural resources roles with the Takla Nation and the CSTC. Terry holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Natural Resources Management (Forestry) and also a Natural Resources Technology Diploma.
Terry and his wife Rena Zatorski have been married for 20 years and have two children, daughter Rylie (16 years old) and son Rowan (14 years old). They reside on Lheidli T’enneh Reserve 2, located 22 kms from the City of Prince George.
